April 2004

440-hp Mustang GT-R shown at 2004 New York auto show.
We've heard rumblings about this car for a while now. Based on the new 05 Mustang, this car was specifically developed for the race track. Some may not like the wing, others may not care for the
fender flares, that's not the point. This is a race car developed for racing. All the body parts serve a function namely, keeping the car stable at speed.

The Valencia Orange Mustang GT-R is inspired by the famous Grabber Orange 1970 Boss 302
Trans-Am race cars piloted by Parnelli Jones amongst others. Lots of cool parts on this car. Carbon
fiber hood, 20" wheels, brake cooling ducts, composite rear spoiler, and carbon fiber dash. What's
under the hood? How about Ford's 5.0 "Cammer" engine. This 5.0 Cammer engine features a twin
throttle body intake manifold based on the single inlet FR-500 intake. Some of you may have seen
this intake top on one of Ford's previously shown concept cars. Time will tell if Ford will offer this to
the public. The rest of the engine however, is available in kit form or as a complete engine. The
complete engine goes for 14,995.00. Geez, that's a lot of money. It is rated at 440-hp and comes with
all the electronics but even still, at that price it puts it out of range for most enthusiasts.

Ford states that " the Mustang GT-R shows that Ford is back in road racing in a serious way"
Welcome back Ford. Follow the below link for an in depth look at this car.

Detomaso Guara

This is not a new car, it was released in 1998 but we thought some of you might be interested in the latest offering from DeTomaso. As most of you are aware DeTomaso has had a long relationship with Ford dating back to the 60's, the marriage between Ford and DeTomaso became widely known with the Pantera. With this latest offering DeTomaso continues using Ford power but this time it is the 4.6L DOHC Cobra engine that powers the Guara. It did not start out that way, DeTomaso was originally using BMW power for this car but the Ford out performed the BMW by a wide enough margin to make it the engine of choice. This car does perform. It accelerates from 0-62 in a time of 4.9 sec and tops out at 168 mph. The car is a mid-engine design and all design work was done in house by DeTomaso.

Will it ever see America? Who knows, there have up to this point, only been three imported into the states.
There is a four month wait so sales must be going pretty good. In the mean time follow the link below to get
more info on this unique car.

The second race of the NMRA nationals took place at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, Georgia. From all accounts it was a tremendous success with a record crowd and excellent weather. Comparing the winners of the Silver Dollar race and Badenton shows the same winners in almost all classes except the
Bracket series. These guys are doing something right.
